SIGHT

It is one of those days where the sky is dark and the sun is bright. You have both sneaked out, and your skirts are all dusty. However, you do not care and neither does she.

This time it was your idea- you wanted to show her something special (normally it is the other way around). You want to show her the play of sun across the City of the Gods, and how even this ugly place can have its charm. You want to show her the sunset, because it will bring life to her cheeks, life that has been missing since He came and talked to her.

You are both sitting now, her chestnut curls shining a deep red-honey. She laughs (a real, low laugh- not that horrible glittering giggle) and whispers in you are an incurable romantic, but she loves you anyway.

You blush and grin and toss your golden braids over a shoulder. Your lips part to say the returning words, and then you frown.

You See an earthquake instead of a coronation, and then a funeral possession, wailing and crying as little coffins pass by a broken City Hall.

You See her, not a laughing girl bathed in dusky light but a young woman, thin and alone. She is standing tall to face the judges because her pride is the only thing left.

Over all that, you hear the Duke's melodic laugh and see his horrible blue eyes.

You blink, and shake your head, just aware that she is pulling back from kissing you. The laughing girl, not the lonely woman.

"Your eyes were all far-away..." She murmurs in her light, throaty voice. You laugh, embarrassed, and duck your head forwards.

"It was nothing, Delia...just a fantasy."
